Government Programs

Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP)

• IRAP supports R&D projects in technology companies
Youth Employment Strategy (YES): up to $30K towards salary of a recent grad
Small Project Accelerated Review Process: up to $50K in funding after a 2-week review process

Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE)

• OCE's Commercialization Program supports academic researchers to commercialize their inventions
First Job program: up to $50K towards salary of recent grad
Market Readiness program: $25K–$150K for starting up a company
Investment Accelerator Fund: $500K in seed funding

Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED)
• The SR&ED program provides a 40%–50% tax credit for your company's R&D spending

Health Technology Exchange (HTX)
• HTX provides matching funds to commercialize medical products
Business Investment Program (BIP) - up to $100K to productize a medical technology
Clinical Validation Program (CV) - $50K-$100K to validate a new medical product with a hospital or clinic
Health Technology Assessment and Implementation Program (HTAIP): up to
$100K to implement a validated medical product to other hospitals

MaRS
Business Project Funding: up to $10K for consulting services

Ottawa Community Loan Fund (OCLF)

• OCLF provides short-term loans up to $15K to start a business

Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF)
Start-Up Loan: up to $15K to start your company

Ontario Summer Company
• This Ontario program provides a $3K grant to start your own company during the summer

Ontario Self-Employment Benefit (SEB)
• The SEB program provides 12 months of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits (about $1,500/mo) to start up your company

Ontario Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (OIDMTC)
OIDMTC provides 50% reimbursement (up to $150K) for labour, marketing, and distribution expenses involved in the creation of digital media

Maple Leaf Angels
• The Maple Leaf Angels are based in Toronto but they do make investments in Ottawa

Innoventure

Innoventure provides $10K-$20K seed funding for startups
